Each contractor who works on a project and the price per job, value, contractor, or cost goes over $2,000 is required to obtain a Contractor License for North Dakota. There are four licensure classes that are based on price per job, value, or cost.

You must have a license in North Dakota to work on any job costing $2,000 or more. People who work with asbestos outside their own homes need to be properly trained and then certified through the North Dakota Department of Health.

How to Obtain a North Dakota Contractor License

Choose which licensure class that you want to apply for and view the fee from below:

     Class A License – no limitation on the value of any single contract – Fee:  $300
     Class B License – any contract up to $250,000 – Fee:  $200
     Class C License – any contract up to $120,000 – Fee:  $150
     Class D License – any contract up to $50,000 – Fee:  $50

A statement from the North Dakota Workforce Safety & Insurance indicates that each applicant will be secured Workers Compensation coverage. If the contractor does not have employees, there will be verification regarding non-employment that will need to be sent it. For further information, you can contact the following:

You will need to also send in a Certificate of Insurance showing proof of liability coverage. The holder of the certificate will also need to be ND secretary of State. The individual is also required to be registered with the Business Division. The phone number is 701-328-4284.

Along with the contractor license, it’s required to hold other permits or license that is a requirement by law, which includes licenses by the following:

    3.  Asbestos Abatement License issued by the North Dakota Department of Health

There are no experience, exam, or education requirements that will need to be completed at this time.

Contractor Continued Education: Is it a Requirement Within North Dakota?
